I just used some adjectives that could explain some of the feelings a person may feel while they are depressed or heading towards it. A potpourri of things can cause depression, from childhood trauma not recognized to a chemical imbalance. None of us want to be depressed but unfortunately some of us are chosen to have this burden.

It is very important when the first stages of depression set in you seek medical advice so as not to let it take a hold of your life. Don’t lie under the blankets for days hoping it will go away because that is not the solution. If it happens too often I suggest you seek the advice of a doctor. My suggestion is either an Endocrinologist or Mental Health Professional. The Endocrinologist should be the first one as he is the Master of finding out what if anything could be wrong with us and that is his specialty “Chemical Imbalances”.

The Endocrinologist can take blood tests to find out if your depression is caused by some hormonal problem which effects your mind. Tests on your Thyroid, Thymus, Pituitary Gland, Ovaries, Pancreas, and so forth. Once you get a clean bill of health you may have no choice but to investigate seeing a Mental Health Professional. Find one and don’t just accept anyone you need to feel comfortable with this person.

Once you find the right one talk to him about what is going on and then you both should make a decision on what course to take so you can at least get yourself back on your feet. Don’t let it wait. I do not advocate the anti-depressants syndrome but in some cases some of us have no other choice but to take them until we figure out what is going on.

In the case of a peri or menopausal women, I would suggest that you have your doctor take a FSH level also. This is a blood test that will tell the doctors where you are in the stages of hormone production in you body. The hormones can play a big part in this depression and other mental shortcomings. So do not hesitate for one moment to ask for this test. It may be your immediate solution. Remember when you see the doctors, you are the CUSTOMER not the reverse…..Keep that in mind and go in there with questions and get the answers don’t just let them rush you out because they don’t have the time. Be strong and insist on getting your answers…

If a doctor puts you on medication, do research on it either in your local library or on the internet. The PDR book that doctors use for prescription has all the information on the medication. Your can check it out as far as the pros and cons and what actually this drug will do for you. Do not just take anything because you were told to do so. Check it out prior to filling the prescription and then you make the decision. Remember you do not have to stay on this medication if you do not want. It is between you, your body and your doctor. Keep in mind if you are put on medication for depression it does not kick in right away be patient. Usually it takes a couple of weeks. So be strong and hang in there. Believe in yourself and that you are going to fight this and work with the doctor to find out the cause of your depression… It’s hard believe me I have been there but you just can’t give up.

The Mood Swing Circus is just that a mind game and it’s anyone’s bet who the clowns are in this arena. Just stay focused and on course to get well and things will work out. Many intelligent and smart people have had problems with depression. Some of the most famous people in history have suffered from depression so look at yourself as being in the company of some great people. Make yourself laugh, and laugh at yourself it helps relieve some of this stress.
